House on Haunting Conneticut lol

So it was a night at the movies this past friday. It was the release of this new movie called "A Haunting in Conneticut"....supposedly based on a true story. I think differently. So, throughout the movie, monea and I was spooked. Shakari (trakgirl) was laughing the whole time and Ira just shaking his head. "I Love You Man" may have been a better movie to go see. I enjoyed the movie, but for many, it may be best to just wait until it comes out on dvd. (if you were wondering about the picture, monea and i were seated next to eachother and just thought to take a picture). Overall, the movie was perhaps, two stars.

The Philosophers

Apart of the college experience (perhaps one of the most important parts of the college experience in my eyes) are the chances to discover and to interact with some pretty interesting people. After our english class (from 5:00-6:15pm...ugh) Monea and I decided to chill with Ira Hobbs and Zachary Hines. These are two of the coolest people you could ever just sit with and have a conversation about concerning stuff that actually matter (that's something I believe is rare on Hampton's campus unfortunately). Consider these two young men philosophers. These two guys can get you thinking about things in a different way and from a different perspective. The conversation last night spoke of love, the educational system, the search for truth, finding yourself and just life in general. I can garantee you, that if you were to have a conversation with either of these two young gentlemen, you might actually be inspired by these low-key geniuses. Through our conversation, I quoted what I could and what stood out to me.

"The true antagonist is the establishment of the old order in society."-Zachary Hines

"As long as I represent the truth, nothing can stop me. There's alot of power to truth."-Zachary Hines

"You got to be responsible when your carrying the truth."-Ira Hobbs

"I feel like at the end of the day, a self ordained master, isn't a master at all. Its impossible for anyone to be in charge of you unless you give them that power to be incharge of you."- Ira Hobbs

"Theres always going to be a higher power than you. Its just a matter of knowing who and what it is."- Zachary Hines

"I feel like society isnt really society."- Ira Hobbs

"I don't want to be blindfolded and told that I'm at the damn beach when I'm in fuckin' Antarctica."-Ira Hobbs

"Because of the fact that you may never know the truth. I never allow myself to think something is the full truth."-Zachary Hines

"A miracle is an occurence that happens just beyond as far as we can see. We only know but so much."-Zachary Hines

Sankofa

An Adinkra West African symbol standing for "having knowledge and understanding of your past in order to make a change for the future." Powerful.

Just One of those Daysss

Okay, so after what seemed like years of constant rain here at Hampton University, we had beautiful weather today. No rain!!!! (but of course it had to rain later on in the day...because, GOD FORBIIIIID we have just a full day of beautiful weather here). So, I decided to take some pics of my girls Ashleigh and Monea by the water. It was one of those rare times when you can really appreciate Hampton's tranquil campus.

Cant Forget the Bus Ride from New York!

Good Ole' Chinatown.
On the Bus ride. We almost didnt catch this bus. Chinatown is one of the most confusing places to drive in. But, there is a beauty to Chinatown. In all the hustle and bustle, you can spot different fashions and even different races. Sometimes you just have to remove yourself from it all and watch. What better way to experience all of this than from behind a window of a vehicle?

Random city pics during spring break

on an escalator going down. however, looks like its pointing to the underwear.
Taking a picture of Ash taking a picture.

Kung Fu Productions. Its A Way of Life.Leigh La Alexandria. Love her.
Elizabeth Frazier...you cease to amaze me.
You haven't experienced an awesome Forever 21 store, until you have come to New York. It made me appreciate its multiple floors with different themes, as opposed to the little rinky ding shop in Norfolk V.A. that I experience. *Sigh*
The Melting Pot...got to Love it.

The City Madness

So, this one day during our Spring Break from Hampton University (March 7-15), Lizz and I decided to meet up with Ashleigh in the city. This would be the day we would show lizz what the REAL city is actually like. Lizz's first comment when experiencing the metrotransit: "Oh yeah, our trains are definitely cleaner than this." OKAY LIZZ! wow, so then after buying her METRO card (this goes out to Kari, notice how many times i'm using the word "metro". yes we do have something called "metro" up here in New York. Love ya!) Lizz tries and goes through the turnstule, and then starts saying "WAIT! I cant get through!". I looked at what Lizz was doing. Perhaps it was because she didnt follow the arrows on the card. You know, the part that says "swipe card this way". Love ya lizz. Anywho, no matter how much I love to pride myself on knowing my way around the city. There will always be a certain madness to it. I was trying to get back up to the Bronx, and ended up in Queens Plaza. Great adventure.

The Time Machine....

So, lets take it back shall we? Imagine the 1920's Harlem, Cotton club. May seem pretty hard to imagine for some of us...removed from that era. For many people, the history of the Cotton Club is just a distant memory and music greats such as Lionel Hampton and Duke Ellington are just ghosts mentioned here and there in the media. However on Monday night, March 9th, my girl lizz and I decided to experience something different at the Cotton Club. We watched my father and Uncle (both of whom created the Pazant Brothers Band) conduct the All Star Jazz Band at the Cotton Club. I was surprised to see that the Cotton Club doesn't just bring a crowd that is expected. Quite the opposite. The cotton Club brought about a very diverse crowd. In fact, there were many Asians there, gettin it innn! Amazing I thought. I guess this is just a lesson in learning that music touches every person, regardless of race, age or gender. Sooo, Lizz and I experienced something a bit different. The Cotton Club that night in many ways was a Time Machine, transporting us back to an age where music, soulful music was cherished.

Welcome Back!

Very first blog here. Bare with me. Short and quick. So anyway, it was March 7 at Seven in the morning and after what seemed like years at Hampton University, my girl and I (Ashleigh Sampson) were back in the city. Were dropped off in the city, somewhere in Chinatown...we get harrassed and stared at by some angry Asians...especially this one angry lady with aggressive gestures. SMH...so much for a welcome back to New York. But eh, what can you expect? But these are some pictures I took on the bus ride back.
